Brighouse Town 0-0 Steels

Stocksbridge Park Steels picked up a goalless draw in their final pre-season game.
The Steels were looking positive as they pushed forward to take an early lead, as they had done a few times in pre-season already. The trialist striker flashed a close-range finished just wide after skimmed the line, while the trialist winger smashed a ball into the post after his tricky footwork had left his defender for dust.
Brighouse did improve as the half went on and had their own chances. The biggest came when their forward moved quickest onto a ball in the box and lobbed Harry Garman, only for the ball to bounce off the top of the bar before going out.
In the second half, it was much the same though the rhythm would be broken by the many substitutions both teams would use throughout the game to make sure everyone got a run out before next Saturday’s FA Cup openers. Brighouse would have the biggest chance after they were able to get the ball over Garman’s outstretched hand and smash the ball towards goal. Elliot Owen made the first block, but Dan Nelson also had to be on the line to stop what seemed a certain goal. Eventually, Jack Tinker cleared the danger.
Stocksbridge had some positive play in the second half but the closest they came was through the trialist striker’s header going just wide in a similar fashion to his shot in the first half. The game ended with the Steels putting the Brighouse defence under pressure but not managing to crack it.
