Brighouse Town 0-2 Steels

Stocksbridge Park Steels continued their fine run of form with a 2-0 win over Brighouse Town.
The Steels started the game by immediately pushing forward and almost got an early reward. The corner from Danny Deakin had been cleared but only to James Morris who in the corner of the box looked to do something spectacular. He almost did it as well, his top corner effort only denied by a very impressive save from Shea Callister.
But the Steels kept piling on the pressure and eventually, the Brighouse defence broke. Deakin’s corner was initially headed out but he got onto it once again. He swung in a brilliant ball and Paul Iggulden was able to knock the ball in with a glancing header.
Seven minutes later, Iggulden was at it again. Once again it started with a Deakin corner, and this time Elliot Owen was the first onto it. His header was well saved by Callister, but Iggulden moved like a striker to take a classic poacher’s finish and double the lead and his tally for the day.
In the second half, Stocksbridge were slow out of the traps and Brighouse looked to launch a comeback. However while they were able to control the ball more, they weren’t able to create many goalscoring opportunities. Their biggest chance came through Matt Tootle when his shot went through a crowded area to hit off the post before it had to be cleared off the line by Kurtis Turner.
However even though Stocksbridge could have put it out of doubt when Jack Dolman blasted over from close range, the goal wasn’t needed and they were able to get the 2-0 win.
