Handsworth 2-0 Steels

Stocksbridge Park Steels fell to their second pre-season loss against Handsworth.
It was an even game in the first half, with both teams looking lively in attack but not being able to create a chance. The first goal would be crucial and unfortunately, it would go to the home side. Handsworth whipped in a free kick and it was the former Steel Scott Ruthven who connected with a header that looped over Harry Garman.
Stocksbridge were close to the equaliser before the break. Handsworth cleared the corner and Josh Millen moved onto the ball. His curl effort seemed to dip at the right time, but former Steel Tom Crosby made an impressive save in order to keep his clean sheet in tact.
In the second half, it was much the same with both teams showing good play, but neither creating many big chances. Ruthven did almost get a second when he turned in the six-yard area before hitting a powerful volley which was impressively saved at point blank range by Garman. However, Handsworth did get their goal, with Parkin towering over the defence to score a header from a corner.
Stocksbridge came close with a series of efforts to get one back. An initial set piece was swept up by Dan Nelson, and his unconventional shot would ricochet off the ball before being cleared for a corner. The next corner would fall to Louie Hall, but a crucial block would stop him scoring. Finally, Tyler Folly would head just wide, ending the chances. The Steels would be goalless but would be happy with an improved performance from their display at Golcar United.
