Chris Hilton has revealed his retained list for the upcoming season. We have decided to reveal 2 players a day leading up to our first pre season game against Retford United. As we reveal each player on our social media channels we will also update this post.
8:00am Monday – Our pre season kicks off tomorrow night and what a better way then to reveal that our midfield general Ross Goodwin has committed his future to the club. Goodwin, who has previously played for Worksop Town, Rainworth Miners Welfare, Sheffield FC and Staveley Miners Welfare, is going into his third season with the Steels. He plays in the centre of midfield and will be looking to make a big impression this season.
Also staying as our back up goalkeeper is Tom Crosby. Tom had an outstanding season at his main club and tomorrow nights opponents Retford United. Crosby has also played for Kimberley Town, AFC Mansfield and Hednesford Town. He usually serves as a back-up goalkeeper but spent time with Retford United last season where he won Player of the Season.
8:00am Sunday – Playmaker and fan favourite Josh Nodder is going to continue his love affair at Stocksbridge for at least another season. Nodder came through the Rotherham United academy and has since played for Stamford, Frickley Athletic, Maltby Main and Clipstone Athletic. He usually features on the left handed side of midfield and is known to score spectacular goals.
Also confirmed for next season is striker Tom Whiting who signed before the second lockdown for the club. A striker with bags of potential, the fans will be looking forward to seeing more of him this season. The striker had played for Guiseley before but signed for the Steels from local side Redmires where he broke a record by scoring four hat tricks in a row.
8:00am Saturday – Striker double header. Highly rated youngster Lewis Whitham has committed his future to the club. Whitham came through the Stocksbridge youth system and started to break through into the first team during the shortened season, impressing the fans in the appearances he made before the year was curtailed.
Long serving talisman Scott Ruthven also staying at the club. Ruthven has been a staple of Stocksbridge for many seasons and has scored over 60 goals for the Steels. He has previously played for Worsborough Bridge, Lincoln United, Sheffield FC and Hallam. Ruthven is primarily a striker but can also play in midfield.
11:00am Friday – Another player to be confirmed for next season is Declan Slater. Slater, formerly of Grimsby Town and Gottne IF in Sweden, signed for Stocksbridge in 2019. The midfielder has also spent short spells with local clubs Athersley Rec and Worsborough Bridge.
8:00am Friday – Highly sort after left back Trench staying at SPS. Trench, formerly of Worksop Town, Staveley Miners Welfare, Clipstone Welfare, Forest Green Rovers and Missouri Valley in the USA, was a regular in the Steels defence during the shortened 2020 season and became a vital part of Hiltons team.
11:00am Thursday – Robery Ludlam. Ludlam, formerly of Mansfield Town, Goole AFC, Rainworth Miners Welfare, Sheffield FC and Rossington Main, is coming into his third season with the Steels. With his ability to play across the defence and even in midfield, his versatility will be very important for Stocksbridge this season.
8:00am Thursday – Jordan Lemon continues his love affair with the club by staying put another season. Lemon, formerly of Matlock Town, Leek Town, Spalding United and Lincoln United, was initially on loan with Stocksbridge before his impressive displays earned him a permanent move to the Eco Power Environmental Stadium and has become the clubs no.1 right back.
11:00am Wednesday – The next player to be revealed as staying for another year is Toby Kenyon. Toby came through the Sheffield Wednesday academy and played in their U18s before signing for the Steels in the summer of 2020. The midfielder is already used to picking up silverware having won the U18 PDL2 North and National with the Owls youth side. He’ll be hoping to follow in the footsteps of other former Wednesday youngsters who have done special things with Stocksbridge.
8:00am Wednesday – Happy Wednesday Steels fans, as he is our No.1 it is only fitting we start our retained list with Ed Hall. Previously of Farsley Celtic, Bradford Park Avenue, Brighouse Town, Silsden and Thackley, Hall struggled with injuries during the 2019/20 season. With a full season beckoning, Hall is set to be the club’s number one goalkeeper going into this year. This is a massive coup to retain the services for Yorkshire’s No.1.
