Managers Marske Notes

We provide a warm welcome to everyone connected to Marske United FC to the Eco-Power stadium today for what should be a highly competitive game of football. I’d like to congratulate Marske on their excellent FA cup run, not only did they do themselves proud but also the NPL and our division. In future years, this is something we aspire to replicate and go far in one if not both the national competitions we enter.
In terms of recent results, it has been challenging and disappointing to not see positive performances converted into points. The only game I felt we performed well below par was the Widnes Town cup game. Other than that, against top 5 sides in this league we competed and were the better team for large parts of the games. For example, away at Cleethorpes Town we were the better team in the first half and deservedly went in at half time 1-0 up. However, we now know in reflection we should have converted some of our other chances into goals so we had a greater lead. Disappointingly we didn’t defend the first 15 minutes of the second half well enough and got punished. After that we competed but without creating any real clear-cut chances. A big thank you for those supporters who have followed us to 3 away games we have had recently. Your support is fully appreciated. We currently sit 9th, with the gap between 3rd and 12th being less than 10 points, so as a club we must continue to look upwards rather than down the league table. As a management team, working closely with others at the club, we are trying to change processes behind the scenes to make progress on and off the pitch so we have a more professional culture and environment for the players to train, prepare and play within. We need to balance short term wins with long term development, and is a challenge that me, Ringy and Pete are up for alongside Graham, Roger and the committee.
Today’s game is going to be a real test of our character, quality and togetherness as a changing room. Along with Liversedge they are the favourites for promotion and have a clear system of play that is highly effective. We will be setting up to counteract this but at the same time try to impose ourselves on the game and be on the front foot for as much of the game as possible. What I can guarantee is the management and players will be 100% committed, focused with the right attitudes to win the game.
Thank you for your continued support. Enjoy the game.
