North Ferriby 0-1 Steels

Stocksbridge Park Steels ended the unbeaten run of North Ferriby with a 1-0 victory.

The Steels put some early pressure on the North Ferriby and earned a couple of corners through it. The returning Danny Deakin whipped in a corner and Elliot Owen flicked the ball on and while the ball bobbled up on Tommy Marshall, Paul Iggulden got enough on the ball to force it over the line despite Sam Aynsley’s clearance.

Stocksbridge continued to be the strongest side in the first half as they looked to double their lead. The big chance fell to Luke Rawson after Ben Townsend found him with a brilliant pass from the back. Rawson looked to lob the onrushing Ben Bottomley, but the North Ferriby goalkeeper was able to claw it out.

In the second half, North Ferriby were much better and were able to control large portions of the game though they weren’t able to threaten the Steels defence too much. Stocksbridge in fact got the big chance to kill the game off. Deakin found Rawson with a great pass and he got the better of Niall Tilsley who dragged him down. Alex O’Connor, who scored at this ground last year, took the penalty but it came off the bottom of the post and back out again. Stocksbridge weren’t able to convert the rebound either.

This gave North Ferriby a chance to get back into the game and when Kurtis Turner gave away a free kick near their own box, it was the big opportunity for the Villagers. A good delivery was put in and it was the goalkeeper Bottomley who connected with the header. However, he was denied by his counterpart Townsend who made a stunning save to make sure Stocksbridge got their second win in a row.
