Nostell Miners Welfare 1-2 Steels

Stocksbridge Park Steels had to fight from behind to beat Nostell Miners Welfare in the Sheffield Senior Cup.
The Steels started off well as they looked to show off their two division advantage. A big chance came early as Jack Tinker burst past his man before sending a low powerful cross into the middle. James Morris got the ball and slammed it onto the inside of the post. The ball some how didn’t cross the line and the game remained goalless.
It all seemed like Stocksbridge were going to get the first goal but football doesn’t do the expected, so it was Nostell who got the first goal. Jack Maeer had the pace to break on the Steels defence and while Tinker blocked off his initial attempt, Maeer was able to rescue it and then tuck the ball into the bottom corner.
Stocksbridge got right back to dominating the game but Nostell’s defence remained resolute and were able to hold the Steels out. When the defence was breached, goalkeeper Harold Edjandue was on hand, impressing in particular with an acrobatic save from a curling Alex O’Connor effort.
We had to wait until the second half for Stocksbridge to finally score. It took a few balls into the box as Nostell continue to battle to defend their area, but eventually it was a ball that was just too good and Tom Charlesworth was at the far post to tuck the ball in and score his first goal for the club.
Stocksbridge continued to press as they looked for a winner, though they had to be wary of a Nostell side capable of causing problems on the break. But eventually, the Steels were able to get the lead. The ball fell kindly to Danny Deakin in the box following the recycling of a corner and he was able to find the near post, sending a sense of relief to the away fans rather than celebrations.
Nostell did give it a good go to try and get an equaliser in order to force the game to penalties, but Stocksbridge were able to finish the job and progress into the next round of the Sheffield Senior Cup.
