Retain List 2023-24

Stocksbridge Park Steels can reveal the retain list for the season.

The retained players will be revealed on our social media over the next few days. We will update this list on a regular basis so you can see which players will be sticking with us.

15th Announcement

Ross Goodwin

Goodwin signed for the club back in 2019 and has been a regular for the first team ever since he came to the club. Last season, he was appointed as the captain and led the Steels to the play-offs.

Now that Goodwin has agreed to stay at the club, he’ll be looking to continue his form in the FA Cup having scored against both Marine and Ashington in our run to the 3rd Qualifying Round last season.

14th Announcement:

Kurtis Turner

Turner returned to the club for his third spell shortly after Ian Richards became manager, also becoming his first signing after his appointment. He has been a regular since returning to Bracken Moor.

The vice-captain will now be staying with the club after this news was confirmed. This will be especially pleasing to the coaching staff as they decided on him as the Manager’s Player of the Season last time.

13th Announcement:

Lewis Macaskill

Lewis was a standout star in his first year at this level. Lewis became a firm terrace favourite with his efforts throughout the season. He a became menace to defenders with his runs down the wing.

Despite interest from others he is the latest of last seasons squad to commit his future to the club and he is a player that is only going to get better at this level. One to watch this season.

12th Announcement:

Ify Ofoegbu

Ify Ofeoegbu joined the club in late autumn from Yorkshire rivals Ossett United. Ify would go on to become the clubs leading goal scorer with 13 goals, helping to fire the club to a play off semi final.

Ify opting to stay for 23/24 means we have fantastic competition up front, which can only be a good thing for the club. Ify has already been challenged by the fans to hit 20 goals in 23/24.

11th Announcement:

Ben Townsend

Townsend made the move from Handsworth to Stocksbridge at the end of November last season following the departure of Harrison Davison-Hale. He’d be the regular number one for the rest of the season, not missing a league game after signing.

Now that Townsend, who made the bench of the Northern Premier League East Team of the Season, has re-signed for Stocksbridge, he’ll look to pick up even more clean sheets as the Steels look to improve on their play-off semi-final defeat.

10th Announcement:

Alex O’Connor

O’Connor made the move from Brighouse Town during the 2021/22 season, quickly making his debut in the 4-2 loss against Dunston. Since then, he has been a valued member of the squad and has continued to impress with his fitness and ability on the ball.

Now that O’Connor, who scored last season’s Goal of the Season, has confirmed he’ll be staying with the Steels, he’ll be looking to nail down a more regular spot in the team.

9th Announcement:

Elliot Murray

Murray made the move from Brighouse Town last summer following a successful trial with the Steels in the summer. Other than injury, he would become a regular in central defence, helping contribute to a back four that conceded the second least goals in this season.

With Murray now confirming his return, he’ll be looking to keep his spot in the team and get even more clean sheets.

8th Announcement:

Jack Tinker

Tinker was Ian Richards’ second signing after he became manager but he’d have to work his way into the first team. This season, he made the left back slot his own and contributed with several assists from that position throughout the season.

With Tinker now confirming that he is staying with the club, he’ll be looking to continue his good form at left back and eventually score his first goal for the club.

7th Announcement:

Luca Defalco

Defalco comes from the Stocksbridge youth system having worked his way up from the U18s and Reserves to make his first team debut last season. As well as playing more games for the Reserves, he also had dual registration deals with Swallownest and Hallam.

Now that Defalco is confirmed to be staying with the club, he’ll be looking to get more regular football at Bracken Moor and help push the Steels to improve on their play-off semi-final defeat from last season.

6th Announcement:

Jordan Lemon

Lemon is the longest serving player at Stocksbridge and hit the 100 appearances for the club milestone last season. He struggled with a groin injury last season but was still able to be a regular when fit at both right and left back.

Now Lemon is confirmed to be staying at Stocksbridge, he’ll be looking to get on the score sheet more often following a year where he scored twice, his highest ever tally for the Steels.

5th Announcement:

Bailey-Tye Baker

Baker signed from Lincoln United last summer following a successful trial. He had also played alongside Jack Tinker and Alex O’Connor at the Barnsley Shadow Academy. He had to wait until October and the FA Cup replay against Ashington to get his debut but after that, he was able to hold onto a place in the first team.

Now that Baker is staying at the club, he’ll be looking to keep that right back slot from the start of the season and help push the Steels to improve on their play-off semi-final defeat from last season.

4th Announcement:

Luke Rawson

Rawson signed for the Steels last summer from Bradford Park Avenue. He came with experience of the league having had several loan spells with Sheffield FC. He would go on to score nine goals despite being out for a chunk of the season with injury.

Now the striker will be staying with the club and will be hoping to hit double digits this time as the Steels push to improve on their play-off semi-final defeat last season.

3rd Announcement:

Mitch Langton

Langton returned to Stocksbridge for a second spell last summer, becoming one of many transfers from Staveley Miners Welfare that summer. He quickly became a key player in the side, working in defensive midfield or in central defence if there were injuries in that area.

He was very impressive in his first season and while not known for his goals, he did pop up in crucial moments such as the winner against Marine which sent Stocksbridge to the 3rd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup. Now he’ll spend more time with the Steels as they look to improve on their play-off semi-final defeat.

2nd announcement:

Tomas Poole

Poole was one of several players who signed for the Steels from Staveley Miners Welfare this summer. He became a key player throughout the season, predominantly playing at right wing but also playing as a striker and in central midfield.

He would score 12 goals throughout the season , making him the club’s second highest goal scorer for the year. This would lead him to winning the Fans’ Player of the Season. He will now look to win that award again as well as help Stocksbridge go even further this season.

1st announcement:

Charlie Oglesby

The central defender signed from Staveley Miners Welfare last summer after being a long term player for the Derbyshire club. He immediately slotted into the Stocksbridge defence and became a key player, leading the club to the second best defence record in the Northern Premier League East, only behind Worksop Town.

Oglesby’s contribution was recognised by the club with him winning the Players’ Player of the Season as well as being named in the Northern Premier League East Team of the Season. He will now stay with the club as they look to go one better than last season and improve on their play-off semi-final defeat.
