Rossington Main 1-2 Steels

Stocksbridge Park Steels struck early in both halves to ensure their second pre-season win, this time against Rossington Main.
Like at Wombwell, the Steels struck early. Tommy Marshall got past his man and put in a low cross, only for it to be cleared. It was sent to Kurtis Turner and he smashed the ball into the back of the net, scoring after just three minutes.
For most of the first half, Stocksbridge were the better team. However as the half closed in on it’s end, Rossington got better and better. They did have the ball in the back of the net when a backheeled effort ended up in the back of the net, but the linesman saved the Steels on that occasion as he ruled it out for offside.
Rossington did get their goal through. They got a free kick on the right following a foul from Dan Nelson, and it was the perfect ball in for Ashley Worsfold to tap in at the far post. It meant that the game would be level at the break.
It didn’t take long for Stocksbridge to take the lead again in the second half. Declan Childes got some space on the right and sent a looping ball into the box. Jack Haslam showed the skill that got him into the Commonwealth Games as he dived to head the ball. The Rossington keeper did get a hand to it, but that only looped the ball back into the net.
Both teams did push forward as neither team wanted it to drop into being the typical dull pass it around pre-season game. However, neither did make a big opportunity to test either keeper. Dan Hernandez impressed with his speed down the left, while Rossington’s Ross Hannah almost nicked one towards the end. However, Stocksbridge would pick up their second win of pre-season.
