Sherwood Colliery 1-1 Steels

Stocksbridge Park Steels were forced to be happy with a point on a trip to Sherwood Colliery.

Much like at Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday, the Steels got off to a great start. Alex O’Connor worked hard and fought for the ball in the box. He played the ball back to Tommy Marshall after winning it and he curled the ball into the bottom corner for a great finish.

The Steels were the stronger team in the first half and really could have doubled their lead. Their biggest chance came from a corner as Danny Deakin’s set piece turned out to be very awkward to deal with. However, Alex Phillipson at the far post wasn’t able to turn the ball in to become the sole top scorer again.

In the second half, Stocksbridge were slow to get going and Sherwood took advantage. They won the ball high up the pitch and Marley Blair got the ball back into the box to curl his shot around Harry Garman, smack it off the post and back into the net. It was a cruel blow for a Stocksbridge side who had been the better side throughout the game.

That goal seemed to spark Stocksbridge back up again as they would go on the attack as they looked to get their lead back. This did spark some chances, with the biggest one when Alex Hardwick was able to flick a ball that initially had gone behinds him goalwards, but there was not enough on it to have it hit the back of the net.

Sherwood did remain dangerous at the other end and could have easily nicked the game themselves, with Garman being forced into an impressive save at one point, but both teams will have to be happy with the draw.
