Steels 0-0 Brighouse Town

Stocksbridge Park Steels were left frustrated after a goalless draw with Brighouse Town.

The Steels were looking to win their fifth game on the bounce and started well. They could have taken the lead from a corner as Danny Deakin whipped in another brilliant set piece, but Alex Hardwick smashed his header off the bar and the West Yorkshire side were able to clear.

Stocksbridge looked dominant for a good portion of the first half and for a while it seemed inevitable that they would score. However to their credit, Brighouse held firm and were able to repel Stocksbridge’s attacks before turning the game in their favour. A close-range header almost saw Brighouse ahead, but a brilliant reflex save from Ben Townsend kept it goalless.

In the second half, the game remained quite bitty with both teams struggling to get any flow or rhythm. Brighouse had some chances with one shot seeming like it was about to trickle in, but Townsend was able to stretch behind him and get the ball before it crossed the line.

At the other end, Stocksbridge got one big chance. James Morris marauded down the right and was able to use a burst of pace to get some space on the right wing. He placed the ball to Hardwick but his powerful shot was excellently saved by Kyle Trenerry who palmed it over the bar, denying Stocksbridge the leaded and the win.
