Steels 0-1 Long Eaton United

Stocksbridge Park Steels were punished for a poor first half after losing 1-0 to Long Eaton United.
The only goal of the game came just before the end of the first half when great interplay between Reco Fyfe and Kameron Campbell allowed the former to break into the box and finish under the legs of Harrison Davison-Hale.
Both teams were full of confidence after their FA Cup successes at the weekend and started the game as such. They both wanted to get the best start possible but it was Long Eaton who could say they were unlucky when Campbell got into the box but collided with Davison-Hale, stopping any possibility of an early goal.
Long Eaton would end up taking control of the game as they were able to get the majority of the possession for the rest of the half. They were restricted to long range shots for the most part, though even that caused danger. An impressive strike from Jamie McGuire from distance when he found space would test Davison-Hale who was able to pull off an impressive save.
The Blues continued to improve as the first half went on and Fyfe was almost able to break into the box only for a strong standing challenge from Elliot Murray to stop him in his tracks. They also came very close when Fyfe let Campbell into the box only for him to smash the ball onto the post and then back into Davison-Hale’s arms.
Long Eaton would eventually get the lead though. It was Fyfe and Campbell combining again, this time Fyfe being the only played into the box. He then slid the ball underneath Davison-Hale to give the Blues the lead right before the end of first half.
In the second half, Stocksbridge were much improved. They were able to hold onto the possession more and their passing caused more problems to a Long Eaton side that were rarely tested in the first half. This did almost allow Luke Rawson and Lewis Macaskill to break into the box but Sam Wilson was quick to react in the Blues goal and grab the ball away from the attackers.
Stocksbridge were also able to get a few chances from distance. Kurtis Turner had a shot from distance but it tested the clouds more than it tested Wilson. Macaskill’s shot looked like it was heading on target after he cut inside before hitting it goalwards, but Tyreece Robinson headed it away from danger.
Despite pressure from Stocksbridge, nothing clear cut would be created. Rawson was able to get the ball away a defender and would get a shot off, but he would only hit it over. That would be the last chance of the game and Stocksbridge would have their first game without a goal this season.
