Steels 0-1 North Ferriby

Stocksbridge Park Steels continued their poor run of form with a 1-0 loss to North Ferriby.

The Steels started off brightly and could have been ahead if not for the bodies on the line defending of North Ferriby. A looped ball was headed towards goal by the debutant Charlie Reaney. However a dream start for him was denied by his effort being cleared off the line.

Stocksbridge would then be punished for not making the most of their bright start. A corner was whipped in with some pace and Levi Torbotton rushed through the defence to head in the cross, giving North Ferriby the lead.

For Stocksbridge, a familiar pattern would resume. They’d have a lot of the ball and they could get it into the box but they wouldn’t get the killer ball or have it drop in just the right place. It wasn’t helped by North Ferriby’s do or die defending which seemed to result in every Steels shot hitting the back of a sliding Villager defender.

In the second half, it was very much the same deal. Stocksbridge had a lot of the ball but were not able to create much of a clear cut nature, meaning real big chances were limited. However one massive opportunity was denied. Curtis Davies’ shot took a big deflection and fell to Reaney on the edge of the six-yard area. He looked to curl his effort in, but Jordan Douglas made a stunning save to make sure the three points would head back to Humberside.
