Steels 0-1 Ossett United

Stocksbridge Park Steels lost out to Ossett United in a 1-0 defeat.

The Steels were almost ahead within two minutes. Jack Tinker’s overlap caused problems once again and he got the space to whip in a low cross. It headed towards goal but it was behind the attackers rushing onto it, meaning Ossett were just about able to get it away.

Stocksbridge continued to have more of the ball and the chances but were not able to convert them to the frustration of the crowd. They’d soon be punished for being unable to score. It was simple for Ossett, a throw-in led to an unchallenged cross which Alex Peterson was then able to head in, giving the Sheepicorns the lead.

It continued to be a frustrating game, with Charlie Oglesby coming close after his header was well saved by the Ossett goalkeeper. But in the end, Stocksbridge couldn’t get one back before the end of the first half.

The second half was very similar with the first. Stocksbridge had a lot of the ball and quite a lot of good plays but were unable to get the moment which would lead to a goal. Sometimes that was a misplaced pass or a shot that didn’t test the goalkeeper, but it was leading to the same problem of there being no goal.

The game would change on another red card call. Jack Watson would go for a ball and would end up going hip-to-hip on a challenge, leading to a foul. The referee would then shock Bracken Moor by brandishing a red card, giving Watson his marching orders. This caused a large reaction, with both Ian Richards and Jordan Lemon being booked for their response to the decision.

Unfortunately, this seemed to stop Stocksbridge’s domination of the game. They didn’t get as much of the ball and Ossett were able to hold them off at an arms length. Oliver Nowak fired over from close range after one breakthrough, but that wouldn’t have counted anyway as the linesman had ruled it offside. In the end, Stocksbridge were left to rue their missed chances as Ossett returned to West Yorkshire with three points.
