Steels 2-0 Bridlington Town

Stocksbridge Park Steels earned a 2-0 victory over Bridlington Town at Bracken Moor in the Northern Premier League East on Wednesday (2nd October) night.

The Steels made a quick start to the game, with Alex O’Connor’s deflected shot in the first minute only missing the target by a whisker. Kurtis Turner soon gave the hosts the lead as his in-swinging corner appeared to sneak into the far corner.

Stocksbridge, though, struggled to build on the goal as Bridlington slowly grew into the game. The Seasiders enjoyed a significant amount of possession and tested goalkeeper Ben Townsend on a few occasions in the first half.

Bridlington’s best chance of the first half came in the 29th minute when a shot came off the woodwork, while a follow-up shot was well dealt with by Townsend. They threatened to equalise on another occasion, managing to create a 2v1 situation, before forward Danny Earl pulled his hamstring in the final third.

Jack Haslam, meanwhile, had a chance at the other end, courtesy of a quick counter attack, but his left-footed shot was saved well by Ben Voase.

The second half got off to a sluggish start with fouls from both teams affecting the flow of the game.

Stocksbridge received a necessary boost when Daniel Hernandez came on for Joao Silva just before the one-hour mark. It took the forward only five minutes to get his name on the scoresheet as he found the bottom-left corner of Voase’s goal with a low strike from just outside the box.

The game quietened after the Steels, who also appeared better than they did in the first half, doubled their lead. Either team hardly created a clear-cut chance in the rest of the game. Turner had the only sight of goal when he attempted a long-range shot, which was saved by Voase.

Stocksbridge’s defensive line enjoyed a great night as they kept the visitors at bay, thus helping the team claim a 2-0 win.
