Steels 2-2 Grantham Town

Stocksbridge Park Steels had a win snatched away from in the final moments in a 2-2 draw against Grantham Town.

The Steels had a great start and were really throwing everything at the Gingerbreads defence. Eventually, they got their deserved goal. Charlie Oglesby found the run of Tomas Poole with a superb ball who advanced into this box. He hit his finish across the goalkeeper and gave Stocksbridge the lead.

Stocksbridge continued to play well in the first half and pressed as they looked to try and extend their lead. One big moment saw Luke Rawson head over from a good position at the near post. That’s not to say Grantham weren’t showing something at the other end of the pitch. Rodrigo Goncalves had a palm stinger of a shot well saved by Ben Townsend.

In the second half though, Stocksbridge would be punished for not taking their chances. Bradley Munns’ free kick on the left wing was curled on and Sisi Tuntunwala, who had just come on as a substitute, headed in at the far post to make things level.

Both teams would go for it to try and win the game. Both sides had chances with both Townsend and Curtis Hall proving their worth in both goals. There were times when Townsend and Hall were beaten as well, but defenders were throwing their bodies on the line to block shots on the line to try and prevent anymore goals. Both teams were doing all they could to not only score, but to prevent their own defence being breached.

At the end, it seemed like it was Stocksbridge would do enough. Jack Watson’s ball from the right was fantastic, looping away from the defenders before getting to Charlie Reaney on the other side of the box. His shot looped over the goalkeeper and dipped back into the net, sending the Bracken Moor faithful into delirium.

But there was to be one more twist. Grantham got themselves a corner following a stunning Townsend save. It was sent to the near post and it started a melee with the ball finding its way in. No one knows who got the final touch with the goal initially being given to Sam Muggleton and later Curtis Morrison, but it did give Grantham massive equaliser.
