Steels 3-0 Liversedge

Stocksbridge Park Steels cruised to their fourth win in a row with a 3-0 victory over Liversedge.
The Steels almost had a goal within a minute when Chris Atkinson’s backpass header fell short, but Oliwier Grzelak could only volley that wide. However the young Pole wouldn’t be denied for too long. Luke Rawson moved into the box and his shot was palmed away by Luke Jackson. Tommy Marshall couldn’t stretch his foot onto the ball but Grzelak was waiting on the edge of the box and he slammed it in.
Stocksbridge were all over the Liversedge defence and the next goal was inevitable. However, it would end up being pretty similar goal for the first. Danny Deakin was given way too much space on the left hand side of the box but like Rawson earlier on, his shot was saved by Jackson. But the ball went right to Tommy Marshall, and it would be one of the easiest tap-ins he’d have all season.
When you’re 2-0 up, the start of the second half can be quite tense as if you concede early it can change the entire mood of the game. Stocksbridge knew that and decided to score instead with one of the best goals to ever grace Bracken Moor. Liversedge gave the ball away and it was played to Grzelak and no one closed him down. He decided to go for it and the ball fizzed and curled in the air before dropping into the top corner. There might not be any point for a Goal of the Season poll this year as very few would vote against it!
After that, Stocksbridge were able to shift down a gear while keeping control of the game. They still looked the most likely to score next with Grzelak missing a chance to get a hat trick when he sent his shot right into the arms of Jackson while Marshall had a long range effort saved. Desmond Amponsah brought some life to the Liversedge attack and he forced Ben Townsend into save where he pushed the ball onto the post, but it wasn’t enough and the Steels were able to win.
