Steels 3-0 Liversedge

Stocksbridge Park Steels got their first win of the season with an impressive 3-0 win over Liversedge.
Liversedge had lost 3-0 at the weekend and were looking to bounce back immediately. They charged forwards after the kick off and they quickly found Mark Ferguson who blasted over when clear. It was only 20 seconds in and the Steels had been given a scare.
Stocksbridge soon improved and they were disappointed that they hadn’t taken the lead. Ify Ofoegbu, making his first start of the season, got past his man and sent a looping cross over the top of everyone. Kurtis Turner got on the end of it only to be denied by the post. Liversedge cleared but only to Jack Tinker who was only denied his first goal by a goal line clearance.
Another big opportunity came from a free kick. Turner swung the ball in and Mitch Langton burst free of his marker. His touch turned it goalwards but it wasn’t enough to get it into the net and it became an almighty scramble. This meant it would be goalless at the break.
Stocksbridge got a goal quickly in the second half against Stockton Town and would do the same here. Liversedge tried to head a ball away but it fell to Luke Rawson, who after good work, blasted the ball into the back of the net.
Mark Ferguson seemed to be the player getting the opportunities for Liversedge at the other end of the pitch. He had a big one when the ball bounced for him the box but his shot was actually deflected over the bar by his own player Laurence Sorhaindo.
Even though Liversedge had pushed up to try and get the equaliser, it was Stocksbridge who’d get a goal to properly kill the game off. Kurtis Turner picked the ball up in midfield, went for it and his powerful shot couldn’t be stopped by former Steel Michael Roxburgh.
At the very end of the match, Stocksbridge completed their brilliant victory. Lewis Macaskill played the ball forward and Rawson beat Roxburgh to the ball. He still had plenty to do and ended up having to round the goalkeeper again but he finished from a narrow angle to seal a 3-0 win for Stocksbridge.
