Steels 4-0 Dinnington Town

Stocksbridge Park Steels are in the next round of the Sheffield Senior Cup after beating Dinnington Town 4-0.

The Steels were coming into the game in poor form so Step 7 Dinnington will have been thinking an upset could be on the cards. Stocksbridge did struggle for a while to stamp their authority and Dinnington almost punished that with Kilmczak having his powerful effort in the box palmed over by Ben Townsend.

Stocksbridge though were able to ease their nerves by taking the lead later on in the half. Basille Zottos was beating his full-back every single time and eventually it paid off. He tore past his defender before finishing past the goalkeeper, scoring his second Stocksbridge goal.

And just to give the home side more confidence, they scored again before the end of the first half. Kurtis Turner’s corner was whipped in, Jack Tinker headed back across goal and Luke Rawson was able to acrobatically volley it in.

In the second half, Stocksbridge nerves had been eased and they played with far more confidence and therefore better play. And they’d be rewarded with a third that really did finish the game off as a contest. It was from a corner but it didn’t need any extra play this time, Turner’s free kick was headed home by Charlie Oglesby to really slam home Stocksbridge’s advantage.

The game was pretty much done then, with the changes from both sides also sapping the pace from the game. But there would be one more goal. Substitute Tomas Poole lofted the ball over the top of a defender and Zottos ran onto it, volleying it past the goalkeeper to get his second. This would be his message to a section of fans who had aimed their ire at him all game. The last bit of excitement would be Andy Ring’s first appearance at Bracken Moor in 10 years, as he came on for a cameo appearance at the end of the game.
