Steels Reserves 3-0 Rossington FC

Stocksbridge Park Steels Reserves beat Rossington FC 3-0 to win Sheffield and Hallamshire FA’s Saturday Cup on 3rd May.
It took the Steels just six minutes to take the lead, with Declan Childes’ corner being turned in by Jonah Herbert.
Despite their early dominance, Stocksbridge survived a major scare, as Ben Pike produced a brilliant goal-line clearance to preserve the lead.
A fine build-up saw the Steels reach the other end of the pitch in the blink of an eye, with Cole Thorpe then tapping the ball in to score the second.
After causing Rossington headaches with his set-pieces, Childes came close to getting his name on the scoresheet, but was unlucky to be denied by the woodwork.
Mark Fretwell’s side did not have to wait long for the third though, as Diego Noche followed up a fine run with a tidy finish to find the bottom left-hand corner.
Stocksbridge thus took a three-goal lead into the half-time break, but it was only after Dan Nelson put his body on the line to deny Rossington towards the end of the first period.
The hefty lead saw the Steels take the foot off the gas a bit early on in the second half, allowing Rossington a fair bit of possession in their attack half.
However, Stocksbridge were quickly back in control, seeing the game out without much trouble for Ewan Oxborough in goal.
Meanwhile, substitute Louis Hall came close to scoring just seconds after coming on, but, like Childes in the first half, had his shot come off the bar.
The game ended with some late drama, as Rossington’s Sam Robinson was sent off.
With that, the reserves have successfully defended the Saturday Cup after their triumph last season.
