Steels sign Ben Townsend

Stocksbridge Park Steels have completed the signing of Ben Townsend from Handsworth.
The Steels have used two goalkeepers this season, with Harrison Davison-Hale being the club’s initial number one before he signed for Belper Town earlier in the month. Henry Hampshaw would come in on loan from Sheffield United following his departure and has impressed with clean sheets against Bridlington Town and Handsworth.
Stocksbridge have pressed on in the market to find a new goalkeeper and have got a coup after completing the signing of Townsend. The goalkeeper signed for Handsworth in the summer of 2019, joining from Worksop Town where he also served as a goalkeeping coach for former Steel David Reay due to an injury ruling him out. He has impressed for the Ambers as they have consistently challenged for promotion from the Northern Counties East League. He has also played for Staveley Miners Welfare, Ilkeston Town and Lincoln United.
Townsend is likely to make his debut in Saturday’s match against North Shields. Tickets are available for £8 for an adult, £5 for concessions and free for U12s when accompanying an adult.
